The impact of oil; a history of oil painting in the Low Countries and its consequences for the visual arts, 1350-1550

The aim of the project is to write an integrated history of the introduction, dissemination and development of the use of oil media in panel painting from 1350 to 1550. Even though the importance of the introduction of oil for the art of painting can hardly been overrated, such a history has never been the subject of a monograph. The project is scheduled to run from March 2007 to March 2012, and is funded by the NWO.
